OUR FOCUS AREAS
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Our Mental Health services cater to the different levels of support that our young men require. From one-to-one sessions with trained mental health professionals to group reflection circles and family counselling, we facilitate the most appropriate way for them to get the mental and emotional support that they need.
Life and Social Skills Training
Life and social skills training focus on developing areas such as confidence, conflict resolution, communication, team and leadership skills. We predominantly use workshops, experiential learning techniques and creative theatre to engage them. Volunteer programs increase their exposure to the ‘outside world’ and bridges the physical gap and isolation that they experience. Reflection circles are also used to build confidence and promote trust.
Social Integration
Some of our young people have years in the institution and therefore limited exposure to life outside. They are ill-equipped to deal with basic social norms and run the risk of greater isolation and helplessness as a result. We actively seek out ways to bridge the physical and social gap that they experience. We run a series of activities including film screenings, supervised visits, encourage family circles and promote our programmes to volunteers so as to expose them to a diverse range of experiences and help them build a community and support system outside of the institution.
Jobs and Career Preparedness
In order to be job ready, we use speaker talks, vocation training courses, career guidance, workshops and exposure visits. Our aim is to inspire our children to imagine a future outside of the institution and to have the right communication, financial management, education and vocational training in order to realise their aspirations. We also introduce them to different industries and the different opportunities available to them.
Our First Green Year!
In December 2016, Priti, Neesha and Sachi took the initiative to germinate urban farming in the home. Their goal was simple, to have the boys learn to grow their own organic food and to add nutrition to the existing food. But little did they know that this bunch of enthusiastic ‘Green Friends’ were not just growing healthy food, they were also cultivating hearts that could melt.
